Who orders takeout at 10pm on a Sunday night? I DO! When your cravings kick in and you just HAVE to have some soup dumplings, this place does the job. Ordered two types of soup dumplings (crab and pork), shanghai stir-fried noodles, and scallion pancakes (with beef and peppers). For takeout soup dumplings, these were pretty good except my friend said the crab one had an odd taste to it which I sort of tasted too (just a tad of a frozen, machine-like after taste...if you know what I mean). I loved the noodles, wasn't dry and had a good amount of meat, veggies, and noodle. The scallion pancakes with the beef and peppers was a first for me! It was packed with flavor (mostly pepper), but I would say, if you're not a fan of spicy, don't try this. The peppers were VERY spicy for a person who LOVES LOVES LOVES spicy food. Not a huge fan of the bell pepper taste though. Waiting to actually try the food sit in rather than takeout :)

A few of us stopped in for dinner. We ordered some dishes to share. Overall, the meal was decent. It didn't blow me away, but it wasn't bad. I would have went back if I ended up in Flushing again. After we got the bill, our waiter stood there. I don't know what he was waiting for, but I didn't ask because of the language barrier. That didn't bother me too much. I think he thought we were going to dine and dash. We paid the bill and left the tip on the table on our way out. It just so happened that the one of us that does speak Mandarin went to the bathroom. While we were waiting at the bottom of the stairs, our waiter had the audacity to ask us where the tip was. He told his co-worker, and two of his co-workers stood outside the bathroom waiting for our friend. I'm told one of the other waiters apologized after the misunderstanding. Do I believe someone apologized? No, but that's a moot point. Even if someone did... The point is, he didn't even have the courtesy to apologize to us himself. To our jerk of a waiter, if you would have looked on the table, there would not have been a misunderstanding. Secondly, tipping is not mandatory. You're lucky I didn't take back the tip we left. It's unfortunate our jerk of a waiter ruined the meal for us, because I won't be back until the staff learns some proper business etiquette.

Absolutely amazing dumplings! It is hard to find such authentic dim sum that rivals what you can find at the best place for dumplings in Shanghai. The other dishes are delicious, too. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys authentic southern Chinese food for breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack, or dinner.

My daughter was craving for dumplings. So we tried this restaurant. What a gem we found! Not only they carry so many different dumplings, the taste is absolutely amazing. Remind you, we are quite picky on the taste of Shanghai dishes because we are from Shanghai. We definitely will go back over there again.

Shanghai has really been off the last couple visits.... Some familiar faces in the kitchen gone, table tops cracked, food ok at best.I yearn for the old days. I will always remember you fondly, you taught me so much, but I fear you are heading southward. I hope I am wrong.Perhaps one more chance?....

It was a cold and grey Sunday. A great day for comfort food. We bundled up and headed to Flushing craving some soup dumplings at Nan Xiang Dumplings. To our surprise, the restaurant was closed that particular day. No idea why. We stood there dumbfounded with other customers outside the restaurant and just went "AWWWW MAN". We were still craving the soup dumplings. Hungry + Angry = HANGRY. No Good! Thanks to the trusty Yelp mobile app, we pulled some alternatives for Soup Dumplings and found A Taste of Shanghai. The storefront doesn't look impressive or inviting... but I trust my Yelp friends' tastebuds. Service is rough and curt. Eh. Who cares? We're there for the food.Their Crab and Pork Soup Dumplings and their Braised Pork Shoulder in Brown Sauce are MUST GET items. The portion of the Braised Pork Shoulder is so large that we ended up bringing it home for another meal. Their Scallion Pancake with Beef was okay. Crusty on the outside (seemed like an egg roll). http://www.yelp.com/biz_…ENJOY!!

Surprisingly my first time eating here bc my boss chose this place. We had a pork soup, soup dumplings, pork thighs, fried fish, and pork with bamboo shoots. The soup was fine no complaints, the soup dumplings were good no complaints, the pork thigh was wrapped in fat! When presented to us, it looked like a big butt. Then our waiter sliced it up and that was when I found out it was not butt. I only ate the non fatty parts and it was yummy!! Def a must have. The fried fish had little dashes of spiciness here and there but it was salty and a perfect blend in my mouth.I originally wanted beef with bamboo but they didn't have it with beef.. Thought t hey could basically just replace the pork with beef but on well guess not. The pork was ok but The bamboo shoots were huge and freaking hard to chew! It's not like the little bamboo shoots u find in lunch boxes.. These are giant. The sauce was sickening... Too thick and too salty. It sucks that the only dish I ordered at our table had to be the suckiest one *sigh

They made the Pan fried bun which taste not as delicious as Shanghainese, but I found the small wonton and Kaofu which attract me to go there..

Food: overall, very good. Try an item that's quite famous but very rarely ordered by non-Chinese people: the salty meat with vegetable fried rice. It's surprisingly good. There is one thing that prevails among all the dishes: the kitchen uses a LOT of oil. I mean, it tastes good, but wow...Anyhow, recommended dishes: crab meat soup dumpling and pan fried dumpling. Can't go wrong with those!Service: it's difficult for them to speak in any language other than Mandarin, so try to go with people who can speak the language, or, like so many others, point at other people's tables to tell the waiter what you want.Decor: There was a couple who literally watched us eat from the window and came in to order similar dishes. The see through window can be awkward, but I stare right back and smile =).Recommended, but if you like this type of food, I would strongly suggest that you go to Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao, which is across the street.

The continuing search for the Soup Dumpling.....This time it's - A Taste of Shanghai.Went there on the neverending search for Soup Dumplings.First the place is small but clean. There's an upstairs with the obligatory fish tank that seemed loaded with people up there but we were seated downstairs.Dumplings, good but small, skin was a little too thick. The broth good but thin.Overall on the dumpling scale I'd rate them a 3 compared to Joe's which I'd give a 5.Also had the scallion pancakes with beef and peppers. OMG these were hot peppers. If you order this, make sure you have plenty of water nearby. Also ordered 8 type seafood in spicy sauce with rice. Came with noodles.Oh the best thing was the bill. Two orders of dumplings, pancakes and seafood dish came in under 20 bucks.Overall, good food but not great.

Haha I really like this place! It's the OG SHANGHAINESE PLACE TO GO.Honestly, I've been eating home cooked Shanghainese dishes for my whole entire life and this place brought back some deep food memories for me. I've only been here twice but every time the food tastes just as perfectly as my grandmother made it and the dishes are all on point. The San Hwang Ji (chicken with the soy sauce) is soooo good. It's the best I've had in a long time! And the soup dumplings are much better than Joe's Shanghai (meh). Oh! And for you Yelpers who like Jiu Niang Yuan Zi (sweet wine rice soup with rice balls) THIS PLACE IS WHERE IT'S AT. It's so good here. Best I've ever had. For all those who haven't had it, give it a try! But be warned, it's funky at first! Haha. The only downside to the place is it's C for sanitation grade. Which made me really weary about all the walls, floors, and food that was around me. Literally I was trying to touch as little things as possible. Sad, cause I enjoyed my food less. The second floor is dirty looking for sure. And the first floor isn't that much better either. Ick.

This tiny little storefront which you can easily miss is one of the finest places to order Xiao Long Bao, or the coveted Juicy Pork Soup Dumpling.Joes LOL Tourist trap. This is the real deal and is simply amazing home style authentic no frills great eats. The soup dumplings come in an order of 6 and the best part about is it is under $5. Even better then that price is how amazingly soupy these bad boys are. The real amazing part is the skins are not super thick yet non of them were broken which meant they all retained the coveted juice inside the dumpling. But beware they can burn the hell out of u if your not careful. Worth it either way LOLThis place also puts out some of the best scallion pan cakes around. Perfect crunch. and just an amzing amount of scallion goodness. The second time I came here the I found the food to be just as good. This time we had in addition to the pancakes and soup dumplings and couple of lunch specials which were pretty damn good. All in all if you are a fan of soup dumplings and have tried them all. Come down this hole in the wall for some of the very best Soup Dumplings around!!!!

This place is way better than Joe's Shanghai. It has some signature Shanghainese dishes where the flavor is spot on.My favorites are the Shanghai mini wonton soup, the Shanghai style chicken (san huang ji, a bit like Hainanese chicken), and the so called "fried shrimp" which is a misnomer - it is really wok stir fried shell-on shrimp (you bao xia).We also tried the soup dumplings and pan fried dumplings. The flavor and broth are good, but the portion size is double what it should have been. I prefer the soup dumplings of Shanghai Cafe in Manhattan Chinatown. But overall this place has more authentic Shanghainese dishes than Shanghai Cafe. Its dishes are also lighter, less greasy than Shanghai Cafe's.

Glancing through the reviews below, it's very easy to see why this place is a hit or miss for a lot of people. There's a reason why even my beloved Spicy & Tasty tends to ask me if they should tone down the flavor a little when I bring my non-Asian friends to eat lunch in Flushing. Sometimes, authenticity just simply won't sell universallyI've been here 3 times with a Shanghai-born uncle, and according to him there's a culinary emphasis in their culture for "Yuan Wai" (original flavor). They tend to have a strange appreciation for the basic flavors involved in the ingredients involved, and real Shanghai cooking aims to exemplify textures and flavors in their ingredients. So that fishy taste in your crab dumpling might not be unintentional...Top 3 Recommendations:-Crab Soup Dumplings-Pork Shoulders-Drunken Chicken

I have only had the 5 spice beef cold appetizer here but the meat was fatty and well-marinated, which I really liked. My qualm with this dish at most places is that the beef tends to be too lean and dry. It is juicy and fatty here. Will have to dry the other dishes but the beef is very solid and authentic.

Went here for dinner Friday night after not particularly craving anything.Pleasantly surprised at freshness of food and cheap eats.My friend and I had:1. Fish (unsure what it was because we totally went on waiter's recommendation) but it was not over 15 bucks. The sauce was slightly sweet and completely covered the fish. It looked like ribs and we were confused when it was first brought to our table. The fish is really meaty. Huge chunks of white meat. yum. The bones are mostly big, except around the edges there are few small ones but definitely worth getting.2. Chicken and tofu- tofu is fried tofu and chicken still had bones. Personally, not my favorite because the chicken barely had meat. Also, the sauce was slightly sweet. I wish it had a little bit of spices to make it pop in my mouth.3. Had fried noodle with vegetable. The sauce is quite good, so we asked for rice to pour the sauce on. The noodles are crisp and vegetables are mix of mushrooms, broccoli, snow peas and chinese bamboo I believe. Under $10 and pretty big portion.Overall the food wasn't that bad and definitely not too greasy like many other Chinese foods. However, it's more on the savory sweet sauce side rather than salty or spicy side. The food was certainly fresh and bigger portion for the price you would get in other restaurants, but the food comes out all different times. Also, there is not peppers to spice up the food if you find it a little bit blend side like I did.

Maybe I am just completely out of my mind, but I did not like the Xiao Long Bao here. Reading other people's reviews they rave about them, but I found them to be bland and well dry... And yes I mean dry. They have insanely large bowls of noodles. Not only is the bowl large, it is actually jampacked. The noodles themselves are pretty good but the soup, well it just taste like MSG, and I am sure it was MSG because i had to keep chugging water from lunch yesterday all the way into today and yet my throat still feels parched. The scallion pancakes with beef and peppers wrapped in it was the highlight of my meal. Delicious!BTW whoever the lady is at the counter, probably the boss, is the most unfriendly person in the world. When my friend and I went in she just threw two menus on the table, assuming we would play fetch I guess?

Ahhh, I went to Shanghai 4 years ago, and I miss it/the food so much!!The food here is yummy and cheap and authentic. Even though this place probably isn't very well known, I like it better than Joe's Shanghai (so overrated). The crab meat soup buns here were *just* as good...hot and juicy and so addicting.Me and my boyfriend got: pork chop, fried yellow fish, eggplant, and the xiao long bao, and the bill only ame out to be a little less than $40!All the food was excellent with very generous portions, and when I peeked into the back kitchen, all the chefs were actually Chinese, not Mexican.Everything was very flavorful and very Chinese. Enjoyed it very much, but next time I'm going with more people because the portions are so big!

This place is decent to dine in but take out is another story. Ordered the curry beef noodles and scallion pancake to go. The curry tasted terrible...it's like they used the lowest quality curry powder, threw in some ramen that weren't fully cooked, and a couple mediocre slices of beef. This was by far the worst curry I've ever had. The scallion pancake wasn't much better, as it was basically deep fried and way too hard to chew. No idea why this place is so hit and miss but do yourself a favor and avoid any curry or scallion pancakes from this place.
